Tuesday's Tidings

Hers

1. The girls and I played a really fun game the other day that I had never played before called "Scrambled States." It was really fun and a great way for Eden to work on her reading and learn all the 50 states names, while Grace learned facts. This is a great family game to play during the summer.

2. I finally got around to updating my Good Reads list. I marked all the books I owned and read, haven't yet read, and ones I want to read, but don't own yet. Also, I had to find all the books that were in my Amazon wishlist and add them to my Good Reads list. This is the kind of organization that I love.

3. Speaking of books, I've decided to participate in the Good Reads 2015 Reading Challenge. I've challenged myself to read 20 books by the end of the year. So far, I've completed only four books, so I have a ways to go.

4. We watched Taken 3 this weekend. Not as good as the first two Taken movies, but still entertaining. Plus it is just fun to watch Liam Neeson kick some boot-ay!

5. Josh and I went to the homeschooling conference this past weekend with his parents and it was great! I picked up several books for the girls from YWAM Publishing-Grace really loves the Christian Heroes & Heroes of History books. But we picked up this really cool geography book all on Maps of the World for school this fall and it's so funny because even Josh wanted one for himself.

His

1. No mention of news of events of this week could report anything more incredible than the reactions of the families of the Charleston shooting victims. Absolutely incredible. What a testimony, what an inspiration, and what a way to stop the power of evil and terror in its tracks. Also remarkable: Mother Emmanuel Church back open for worship services on Sunday. Bravo.

2. On a very different note, Europeans marked the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo this past weekend. The British royal family attended, grand reenactments were conducted, and even the deliver of the news of victory in London was played out again by actors in full period costume. There are plenty of places to watch clips, but here's one to get you started. An interesting point? Most war games of the battle have determined that Napoleon and the French could have and should have won the battle. He was decidedly off his game that day (or the Duke of Wellington and his men were seriously on theirs). Check out Andrew Roberts' new book Napoleon for more.

3. Sticking with the history theme here, color photography was bleeding edge tech in World War I, but most of us have never seen color photos from that time period. Well, you can see ten of them here. It really changes your perspective!
