1. We went to the zoo on Saturday. It was a perfect day for it! A lot of the animals were out and the weather was warm. I'm so glad we have a membership so we can go whenever we want.
2. So we started school last week. Grace's load is pretty heavy. We're encouraging more work. She's going to begin doing book reports next month and Science projects. Right now, she's studying the state birds, so each week I'm having her draw and color a picture of the bird she's working on, along with 4 facts about it. Eden is doing super well. Her cursive is beautiful and everyday I'm not only seeing improvement there, but also in her number writing.

Doing your own puree is super easy! Seriously, the hardest part is cutting them in half and scooping out the seeds. Then all you do is pop them in the oven with a little water in the bottom of the pan at about 350 till they're soft (usually about an hour)- presto! The only thing left to do is scoop out the flesh and puree it! I just tried a new method where you pop the whole thing in your slow cooker, but I ended up having to cut it up anyway since the pumpkin was too big for the crock pot. :(

I struggle with beans from scratch, too. I read somewhere that you should use purified or distilled water (can't remember which) because the minerals in tap water make them hard to soften for some reason. I haven't tried, but it's on my list!!
