Tuesday's Tidings for June 23, 2015

June 23, 2015 By Chelsia Rief Leave a Comment

Tuesday's Tidings

Hers

1. The girls and I played a really fun game the other day that I had never played before called "Scrambled States." It was really fun and a great way for Eden to work on her reading and learn all the 50 states names, while Grace learned facts. This is a great family game to play during the summer.

2. I finally got around to updating my Good Reads list. I marked all the books I owned and read, haven't yet read, and ones I want to read, but don't own yet. Also, I had to find all the books that were in my Amazon wishlist and add them to my Good Reads list. This is the kind of organization that I love.

3. Speaking of books, I've decided to participate in the Good Reads 2015 Reading Challenge. I've challenged myself to read 20 books by the end of the year. So far, I've completed only four books, so I have a ways to go.  [Read more...]

I hope you all had a wonderful Father's Day weekend. We made time to see my dad for lunch, give my other dad a phone call, and then spend the evening at our house with Josh's family. I got Josh this Weber work table that sits on the side of his kettle. It's something he's been wanting for awhile and I know he would get a lot of use out of because we typically grill most of our meals during the summer.

Speaking of summer, we're officially in it! How exciting is that? Just one more season away till my favorite season which is, duh, fall, of course. But, let's enjoy summer first shall we? Or at least, I will be enjoying it once I can breathe and my allergies are gone.  [Read more...]

Peanut Butter & Fudge Swirl Pie | Catz in the Kitchen | catzinthekitchen.com #FathersDay

Here it is, the final day of our Father's Day Pie week. We kicked off with this Old-Fashioned Peanut Butter Pie, and then we moved into the Lemon Cream Pie, and today I'm back with yet another peanut butter pie recipe because it is one of my husband's favorites! In fact, it used to be on the blog, but since I couldn't find it to update the photos, it appears that I deleted it. So here it is!

I first made this pie...I think back in 2009 or 2010, and it was a hit with everybody. I've been making it ever since!

Lemon Cream Pie

Summer's upon on us, and it's time for something refreshing, with a light, citrus flavor. This lemon cream pie recipe is just the thing!

Lemon Cream Pie | Catz in the Kitchen | catzinthekitchen.com #FathersDay

Welcome to day 2 of our Father's Day pie week! Yesterday, I shared this super indulgent old-fashioned peanut butter pie with you, and today we have a lemon cream pie. Oh yes, a lemon cream pie, and it is bright, creamy, and dreamy. I am in love with it, and I am certain you will be, too. [Read more...]

Old-Fashioned Peanut Butter Pie

Like peanuts? Peanut butter? How about this old-fashioned peanut butter pie recipe that has both, along with some insane chocolate whipped cream?

Old-Fashioned Peanut Butter Pie | Catz in the Kitchen | catzinthekitchen.com #FathersDay

It's Father's Day Pie Week again here at Catz. It's an annual tradition from our church, and I'm bringing it to you once again - and we're starting the week off with this kind of yummilicious Old-Fashioned Peanut Butter Pie.

My husband LOVES pie and he adores peanut buttery things so I thought this pie would be pretty perfect for him - and I was right. He freaked out over it! And by freaked out, of course, I mean that he ate most of it himself.  [Read more...]

Tuesday's Tidings

Hers

1. I was wasting time at the mall the other day while Josh took Christian summer shirt shopping at Old Navy and I wondered into H&M and found this dress, which is so comfortable and this hat which is just perfect. I've been looking for a summer fedora for a few years but they never fit my head properly, so I snatched this one when I saw that it did.

2. I made a version of these breakfast egg muffins over the weekend and they were out of this world delicious! All 3 of my kids gobbled them down. They are such a great way to use up leftover produce from the fridge.

3. Josh and I finally watched American Sniper over the weekend too. It was good, really sad. But watching it renewed my love for war movies. Do you have a favorite?  [Read more...]

Hey, guys! How's it going? Our weather has been super warm and super beautiful. I actually was able to spend a few hours in it both Saturday and Sunday...and by bedtime Sunday night, I was paying for it big time. Oh well. I think it was worth it to feel the warm sun on my shoulders for a little bit.

This week, we have a few house guests staying with us. Josh's family had to go out of town, so Josh's brother Jeff is going to be staying with us for a few days, along with a blue Beta fish named Otis who belongs to one of Josh's sibling's friends, and a baby bird. Yes, you heard me right. We have a baby bird, who I've named Humphrey. Humphrey was almost killed by a cat, but Josh's youngest brother saved it. Sadly, Humphrey has a hurt wing. I offered to take the cute little guy into our home and feed it out of a eye dropper and keep it safe. Our goal is to hopefully take care of the bird long enough for its wing to heal so it can join the others outside. I can say that Humphrey looks a million times better than he did yesterday when I first met him. He is even cleaning himself now, which is a great sign! The catch is...he wants to eat all the time! So that means for he next five days I'll be busy! That's okay. Humphrey is darling and I'm enjoying helping him heal. [Read more...]

Sweet Corn Tomalito

Sweet Corn Tomalito | Catz in the Kitchen | catzinthekitchen.com #corn

Do you guys have a Chevy's Fresh Mex restaurant near you? It is probably one of my favorites Mexican places to eat. Their chips and salsa I could eat buckets of...buckets, people! When the server places that basket full of warm tortilla chips and fresh salsa in front of my face, my self control goes right out the window and I just chow down. Actually, that's how it is when they place any menu item in front of my face. No self control.

Our closest Chevy's recently closed down. Why, I have no idea. The food is always good and it was always crazy packed on the weekends. If I want my Chevy's fix I have to go to the other side of town, which doesn't happen all that often, sadly. [Read more...]

No-Bake Reese's Fudge Bars

No Bake Reese's Fudge Bars | Catz in the Kitchen | catzinthekitchen.com #reeses

Hey guys, I'm over at Evermine again today sharing another Father's Day recipe, and this one is really really good. I promise.  How do No-Bake Reese's Fudge Bars sound? That's right, they've got chocolate and peanut butter cups (those two things on their own are pretty darn tasty), but then they get really simple because you don't bake them at all! [Read more...]

Tuesday's Tidings

Hers

1. Sunday night was the premier of season 11 of The Next Food Network Star and as always a very colorful array of characters. I can't say I have a favorite yet, but I've enjoyed watching "Mama Sita", Michelle, Rosa, and Jay. Jay reminds me a lot of Lenny, so if you watched last season you know what I mean.

2. I usually do not like waffles at all, but I've started buying these organic waffles from the health food section at our Fred Meyers grocery store and I'm addicted. Last week I tried the Multigrain and this week, Josh picked me up the Homestyle and they are just as good. I eat them with the smallest drizzle of real maple syrup and a happy helping of sliced strawberries and raspberries and it is the best breakfast ever!

3. You guys! I made the yummiest fake-out ice cream dish last night that was so yummy and without an ounce of guilt. It was kind of amazing!

His

1. So, WWDC was today (that's Apple's annual developer conference, for those of you with more important things to pay attention to), and, among other things, Apple announced a new service called Apple News. I laughed seriously hard when one of the journalists I follow on Twitter pointed out that it's quite literally impossible to search the Internet for information on a service called "Apple News"...

2. While we were all basically dying of allergy attacks on Saturday and Sunday, we were able to grill up some awesome food! Saturday was grilled salsa chicken tacos with a pineapple salsa topping, and Sunday was a toasted sesame ginger salmon. We didn't photograph either one, as they were both spur of the moment, but I can tell you they were both excellent recipes, and we'll put a little spin on each for you sometime this summer!

3. So, childproof caps. You know, I think they're great and everything. Quite necessary, in fact. However, when you have to use Vise-Grips to open your son's allergy medicine...well, thank goodness for Vise-Grips, I suppose.
