Apple & Onion Stuffing

November 19, 2014 By Chelsia Rief 1 Comment

Apple & Onion Stuffing | Catz in the Kitchen | catzinthekitchen.com | #stuffing #Thanksgiving #recipe

This sweet and savory Apple & Onion Stuffing is just as easy to make as the stuff from the box, but tastes better, looks better, and is better for you, too!

Apple & Onion Stuffing | Catz in the Kitchen | catzinthekitchen.com | #stuffing #Thanksgiving #recipeBelieve it or not, I've never made stuffing from scratch. Believe it or not, I actually like the stuffing from the box.

*Gasp*

I've always wanted to make my own stuffing, and I seriously considered making some last year when we hosted Thanksgiving at our house, but not enough time to experiment and so many coupons later, I figured it would just make more since for me if I took some help from the store - that way I could focus on other dishes that needed my attention, like this sugar cream pie, my mom's candied yams, and this broccoli salad.  [Read more...]

Tuesday's Tidings for November 18, 2014

1. This weekend, we took Grace to get a new coat. I had originally planned on going to Kohls and possibly Old Navy before hitting up the mall if we hadn't found anything in those stores, and because I had stuff I wanted to look at there. But, on a whim to get Starbucks, we hit up Ross and ended up finding a gorgeous London Fog coat in her favorite color that fits her beautifully! Now if they only had one in my size...

2. On Friday, Josh and I got to go on a date! We went to dinner at Pastini (one of our favorites!) and split artichoke bruschetta and a Caesar salad (soooooo good), and then went and saw Interstellar. I must be the only person that DID NOT like this movie. It was 45 minutes too long, I didn't care much about the characters, and I felt like it borrowed too many ideas from Gravity, Inception, and 2001: A Space Odyssey. The acting was well done and there were a few scenes that drew me in, but then I was left wishing I still had popcorn to eat to give me something to do. I just feel like it was trying to be too smart.  You couldn't pay me to sit through the movie again. #justonefoodiesopinion [Read more...]

Only 10 days until Thanksgiving! We went grocery shopping yesterday and boy was the store crowded! People are already beginning their Thanksgiving "stock up" and I think next Sunday will be even worse. Josh is already trying to persuade me to go grocery shopping the following Monday instead of Sunday, but I think it will be just as bad. The closer to Thanksgiving, the busier the stores will be.

#CHOCOLATEGIVES

#chocolategives

A few weeks ago, I was approached by Seattle Chocolates - they wanted to know if I would be interested in receiving a sample box of their holiday chocolates to learn more about their campaign #chocolategives to "stomp" out hunger in our country.

The idea? Enjoy some free chocolate while learning about supporting a cause that affects our country.

They had me at free chocolate!

Pumpkin Angel Food Cake with Harvest Cream Cheese Frosting

Pumpkin Angel Food Cake

Pumpkin Angel Food Cake

Remember yesterday when I shared the harvest cream cheese frosting with you? Well, here's the cake you want to serve with the frosting. This isn't any ordinary cake though. Oh no, this is a pumpkin angel food cake! I adore, love, and swoon over angel food cake, so when I came across a pumpkin version of angel food cake, I was all in. I knew I had to make it. I knew that the harvest cream cheese frosting had to go on top of it. [Read more...]

Harvest Cream Cheese Frosting

Harvest Cream Cheese Frosting

When I was a kid I was obsessed with frosting. I mean obsessed! If it was someone's birthday, I would get extra helpings of frosting from the the serving plate or any one of the family members that didn't like frosting as much as I did. They would just scoop their unwanted (who wouldn't want frosting!) frosting up and plop it on my plate - and I would devour it.

Slowly. Because I like to savor things like frosting.  [Read more...]

Tuesday's Tidings for November 11, 2014

1. Last Thursday was the monthly homemaking and hospitality class I attend. Lisa decorates her table so beautifully. We had a ton of fun cooking and as per usual, not only did I get some great recipes but a lot of helpful prep tips for the holidays as well.

2. I love our rental home. I think it is such a lovely home for our family. I love the trees, the backyard layout and how we're situated among the other neighboring homes. Except around this time of year when all of our neighbors leaves fall into our yard and every storm throws branches into our yard. We're now in maintenance mode and I spent some time yesterday tossing leaves into our rubbish bins. Such slimy business is wet leaves.

3. So who has to work this Veteran's Day. Josh has the day off, so we're sticking close to home most of the day except for when we venture out to work on our Operation Christmas Shoeboxes.  [Read more...]

How was everyone's weekend? We had a great one. We got some yard work done, stocked up on groceries from Trader Joe's and Cosco, watched Maleficent as a family and on Sunday, Josh worked on school work while I prepped our grocery list before grocery shopping as a family. It was a busy weekend, but still somehow felt relaxing.

I am so excited about this week. For one thing, I'm prepping for Thanksgiving. FOR YOU! That's right-all this week is a lot of Thanksgiving day prep for you. Also, Tuesday is Veteran's Day. It's a day to say thank you to those who served and are serving our country. It's also a  day off from school and work for Josh. We're spending our Tuesday shopping for our Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes and cooking/baking. I plan on getting a lot done on Tuesday.

Pumpkin Spiced Biscotti

Pumpkin Spiced Biscotti is such a fun treat to make and give to fellow coffee lovers. Perhaps a great gift for your Thanksgiving host this year? Pumpkin Spiced Biscotti is such a fun treat to make and give to fellow coffee lovers. Perhaps a great gift for your Thanksgiving host this year?

Hi guys and happy November! Is it just me or is fall just flying by? It makes me sad because I adore this season so much and soon it will be over. Don't get me wrong, I love winter too, but come February and March, the grey clouds and constant rain just weigh me down a bit. But that's just me counting my eggs before they hatch because it is still very much fall!

Today, I'm over at Evermine sharing  a perfect fall treat. All you need is a cup of coffee and this pumpkin spiced biscotti to get in the thankful spirit.

Slow-Cooker Chili

Slow-Cooker Chili

In case you haven't noticed from my two previous posts, I've created an entire meal for you. Yesterday, I brought you cornbread and then the day before that, I shared some awesome honey butter to shmear on top of your cornbread. Today, it's only natural that I bring you some chili to go with that cornbread and honey butter.
