Love the classic combo of steak, cheese, and fried onions? Turn that sandwich craving into pie form with this easy and quick Philly Cheesesteak Pizza!
Let's be clear from the get-go here - this is a Philly cheesesteak inspired pizza at best, much like our Philly cheesesteak panini (still one of our favorite sandwiches to make around here). After all...it's a pizza. How authentic a Philly cheesesteak could it possibly be? Running afoul of cheesesteak aficionados seems like a bad idea for some reason, so I'll say again, as I did in the panini post, I've had a cheesesteak in Philadelphia, it's amazing, and nothing quite compares. If you need a refresher on what makes an authentic Philly cheesesteak authentic, here you go. That said, the flavor combination (mainly steak, provolone cheese, and grilled onions) is pure genius...so why not find more applications for it?
Enter this Philly Cheesesteak Pizza.
Chels and I really enjoy playing with pizza toppings and flavors. Frankly, we haven't blogged nearly as many pizzas as we ought to have, and that is definitely something we should work to rectify (I suppose this post is a step in that direction). This one was pretty dang simple. First, I grabbed a pack of stir fry steak (basically, thin, pre-sliced steak packed at the deli counter), salted and peppered it well, and panfried it. It's Monday morning as I write this from a very comfy spot in my bed and outside my window there is snow blanketing the neighboring rooftops!
It's no secret that we love Trader Joe's in this house. We make a point to shop there and stock up on our TJ faves at least once a month. I should make the point here right at the beginning - this post is in no way connected to or sponsored by Trader Joe's! We just love shopping there!
How was everyone's weekend? I'm afraid mine felt as if it flew by...but isn't that always how it is with weekends? I had specific plans for Saturday and Sunday and among the errands between the two days they never really happened, which is kind of a bummer.
For many reasons, I love my daughter Eden. I consider her the middle child right now because she's 9 years old - whereas Grace is almost 14 and Christian is 5 and Ruby is well, very small (does that make sense?). Sometimes the middle child can get overlooked because she's not the baby anymore, but she's not the oldest either. But her place in our home is just as important as all of the others.

Well, I can't say we had a completely beautiful weekend, but this week is looking promising. I'm just so eager for that sun - who's with me?!
I picked up the basics of this mashed potato recipe from one of my aunts (I have quite a few!). I made some ingredient/measurement changes and basically made it my own, and now I make these quite a few times a year. You should have seen the kitchen when I made them for Thanksgiving last year - I'll just tell you now, it was a mess. I can imagine that from someone else's perspective it would have been pretty funny...I, however, didn't find it funny in the slightest.

Happy Monday, everyone! How was your weekend? After what seems like several weeks, we finally had a dry day yesterday. It got to about 60 degrees and while Josh washed and detailed his car, the little kids and I worked in the front yard cleaning up all the dead leaves and pulling weeds. The front yard was really looking pretty ugly, but it looks so much better now, and probably the next dry Saturday or Sunday will have me looking at cleaning up the backyard.
Last week I was pretty much under the weather, which really sucked. I'm hoping this is a better week for me, at least one that allows me to get into the kitchen a bit more.
